The White House Saigon is one of the newer kids on the block for the District 2 bar scene. Located in a superb, elegant French-styled mansion in the fashionable Thoa Dien area of the district, it has certainly caused a stir since opening. It offers a combination of sports bar and classy pub, and marries the two genres extremely well.
Location
Turn into Thao Dien from the Hanoi Highway, drive for 100 yards and then turn right at the pharmacy onto Tran Ngoc Dien. Carry on for about 500 yards and turn right again, at Thao Dien Coffee, into Nguyen U Di. Duong So 4 is the first on the left, adjacent to “JUST” restaurant. The White house looms large on the left-hand side. See the video below:
Welcome
Mine host Ellen, makes everyone feel welcome from the minute you walk through the door. This is a bar that is building a strong following among a dedicated clientele that like the “everybody knows your name” ethos. The local crowd, particularly the pool players are a very welcoming bunch.
The Atmosphere
This is where the White House gets clever. Basically, Ellen has managed to create different ambiances in different parts of the building. The ground floor is a pub, one floor up and “The Red Room” is a comfy space with soft armchairs and low tables. Moving up to the top floor and you’ll find the best pool room in town. Two competition standard pool tables, a separate bar and TV and big screen sports action, for those who prefer to watch sport rather than play pool. Then, of course, there are the gardens. This is a beautiful area with seating for about 40 people, which can be increased, nice flower beds and a swimming pool. The perfect space for holding your private function, Check out their facebook page for more info.
The White House Food and Drink
The White House has craft beers on in both of its bars, and no less than 11 of them. The local craft brewing scene has exploded across Saigon in recent months and the White House carries more of them than most District 2 outlets. Bottled beers, good quality wines, and spirits make up the rest of the drinks menu. Food is by way of bar snacks; wraps and meatballs etc.
This is a great venue, in a good location, with loads of secure parking for motorbikes. As the population of Thoa Dien grows rapidly, it is a much-needed addition to the local drinking scene. Drop in and experience the friendly atmosphere for yourself.
