Rest In Peace: King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand passed away at Siriraj Hospital peacefully at 15:52. The much loved King will be mourned by millions of Thais. The King was born in Cambridge Massachusetts in the United States of America. He acceded to the throne on 9 June 1946 following the death of his brother, King Ananda Mahidol. He had been in poor health recently and thousands of Thais were camped out outside the hospital saying prayers for him.
He was always seen as a unifying monarch bringing all elements of the people of Thailand together. Parliament is holding a special session at 9.00pm tonight local time.
