Which are the best Indian restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City? This is a question that is often asked. Finding good Indian food in Southeast Asia can sometimes be difficult. I have lived in the region for the best part of a decade now and I struggled, until I came to Saigon. The city is blessed with some excellent Indian restaurants.

This is as good as you’ll get anywhere to be honest. It really is a great place, they are generous and include freebies like a sweet or a side dish all the time. I have lunch here about 3 times every week. The Thali lunchtime specials represent unbeatable value anywhere in the city. Really friendly people serving expats and backpackers alike.

Ganesh are slowly but surely developing into a chain. They already have two Indian restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City, one in Phu Quoc and one in Nha Trang. The main one in the city is the Hai Ba Trung venue which is busy most of the time. The food is superb, though the service at times can seem a little indifferent. It’s worth it though, some of the best Indian food I’ve eaten has been here.

Tandoor serves extremely good authentic Indian food. It has recently moved to a slightly larger venue and is well placed now just off the main focal point of the city, Nguyen Hué. Moving to larger premises is always a sign that the business has been doing things right. It’s a real winner, slightly more expensive than some of the others, but worth it, and still very inexpensive by Western standards. It is worth a place on any list of top Indian restaurants. Great meat and vegetarian cuisine.

This is a super little restaurant in the heart of the backpacker district. It sells terrific halal meat and vegetarian dishes from Indian, Pakistani and the Middle East. It is well located and well priced. The ambience is generally pretty lively especial at night. The food is really very good indeed and the service just fine. They also have a very good free delivery service, in case you want to stay in your hotel.

Another one on the main backpacker strip of Bui Vien, just a few doors along from Baba’s. It is another real winner. Terrific food and a fun place to be. These restaurants are great to sit and watch the world go by. Bui Vien is a throbbing hive of activity at night and it makes for a great atmosphere. Catering for backpackers means of course that the dishes are not expensive, but they don’t let that affect the quality. Great little place.
