Great news for people in Saigon and Bangkok today as Jetstar announced plans to start flying between the two cities at the end of the year. Jetstar has made a firm commitment to take on its rival in the local market, VietJet Air and adding this route, they have thrown down a clear marker. Flights will begin by the no frills carrier, on December 10th. More competition on this route is just what passengers need, and can only help to drive down prices.
Vietjet Air recently announced plans to double its seat capacity on this route and Jetstar’s announcement, is seen as a reaction to that. Jetstar Pacific, the local carrier is linked with Quantas as part of the Jetstar group and will use the Airbus 320 on this new route.
Daily flights will leave Saigon’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport at 1.05pm every day and arrive at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport at 2.35pm. There return flight, departing at 3.20pm and arriving back in Vietnam at 4.50pm. This is Jetstar’s second International link from Saigon, following Macau, in what is hope to be many new connections.
